Water withdrawal and water use in Sweden :
Decreased use of water in Swedish households
The water use in households was 10 percent less in 2005 than in 2000, whereas the use in the manufacturing industry has increased slightly.
The manufacturing industry uses more than 60 percent of the total fresh water volume. About 20 percent is used by households. The water use for different sectors is shown below.
In Sweden, the total fresh water withdrawal was 2.6 billion m3 in 2005. This is two percent less than in 2000. The majority of the water, 70 percent, was surface water. Groundwater amounted to 18 percent. The rest of the water could not be classified as either surface or groundwater. Seawater used as cooling water in nuclear energy plants is not included.
