Localities 2005: Population and buildings

There were 1940 localities in Sweden 2005. The total population in localities is 7 632 000 inhabitants, or 84 percent of the total Swedish population. On average 24 percent of the population living in localities was younger than 20 years of age and 17 percent 65 years or older. This is shown in a new report from Statistics Sweden regarding statistics on population in localities by age and sex.

This report shows statistics on age and sex distribution, number of buildings, population by type of dwelling and residential/non-residential floor space. All data for localities are aggregated to counties. Data for single localities is found on http://www.scb.se/MI0810-EN.

Definitions and explanations

A locality consists of a group of buildings normally not more than 200 metres apart from each other, and must fulfil a minimum criterion of having at least 200 inhabitants.
