Staff training statistics, Spring term 2008:

Nearly half of all employed persons in staff training

During the first half of 2008 some 2.1 million people took part in some form of staff training. This includes training, conferences, seminars or study days as well as introduction for new work duties. The number of participants corresponds to 46 percent of employed persons in June 2008.

One person is counted as several course participants if he/she has participated in more than one course. The total number of participants in staff training was 3.1 million during the period. This gives an average of 1.5 courses per participant.

Course participants: A person is counted for each time he/she participates in a course. No study was conducted for the years 2004–2005.

 

Advantageous to work for the same employer
The proportion of people in staff training increases the longer one has been employed with the same employer. This applies to employment time up to 10 years.

The increase is above all seen among women. About 40 percent of women employed for 0–2 years participated, while 55 percent of those employed 6–10 years participated.

Definitions and explanations

Staff training refers to training that the employer or one's own company pays for completely or partially. The training can occur during working hours or free time and also includes introduction of new work duties and self-learning.

Statistics on staff training reflect employed persons' own perception of which types of training they have had during the first half of 2008. These statistics describe length, form and content of training.
