Service Producer Price Index, 3rd quarter 2009:
Higher prices for services
The Service Producer Price Index increased by 0.4 percent during the third quarter compared to the second quarter 2009. The corresponding figure during the previous quarter was a decrease of 0.3 percent. Since the third quarter 2008 the Service Producer Price Index has increased by 0.6 percent.
Changes in Service Producer Prices
Swedish service producer prices increased by 0.4 percent on average compared to the second quarter 2009. Higher prices for transport and storage services (0.6%) and for professional, scientific, technical and financial services (0.9%) contributed upwards with 0.2 percentage points each. Following a negative trend, prices also rose for information and communication services (0.6%), which contributed with 0.1 percentage points. The increase in service producer prices was counteracted by price decreases for administrative and support services (-1.3%) with 0.1 percentage points. Most of these price decreases were due to a seasonal fall in prices for renting and leasing of cars and light motor vehicles.
Compared to the third quarter 2008 the Service Producer Price Index has increased by 0.6 percent, which is a decrease compared to the previous quarter when the corresponding figure was 0.9 percent.
SPIN 2007 (Swedish Standard Classification of Products by Activity)
SPPI is produced and published in accordance with the Swedish Standard Classification of Products by Activity (SPIN) that is linked to the European classification, CPA. A new version of this classification, SPIN 2007, was introduced in the Swedish SPPI in 2009. Accordingly the product specific indices are published in accordance with the new classification. In Statistics Sweden’s statistical database, the SPPI is published in accordance with SPIN 2002 and SPIN 2007 during 2009.
