Income statistics 2008 - based on administrative register:

Nearly only men earn a million a year

Nearly 39 000 persons aged 20-64 had more than SEK 1 million in total earned income in 2008. 86 percent of these were men. The number of persons earning one million in 2008 was three times as many as in 1999 calculated in current prices and double so many in constant prices.

The persons earning one million a year amounted to slightly more than 7 promille, or 7 persons out of every thousand persons earned over SEK 1 million. The greatest percentage of those earning a million a year was in the municipalities of the greater Stockholm area. Every tenth person in Danderyd had an income of SEK 1 million. In the municipalities of Gullspång, Bjurholm, Norsjö, Malå, Sorsele, Dorotea, Vilhelmina and Arvidsjaur no persons had an income over SEK 1 million.

There are more persons with a total earned income of SEK 0 than those earning more than SEK 1 million. In 2008 the number of persons with earned incomes of SEK 0 was 204 000 persons or 3.8 percent. The percentage was about the same for men and women.

The median income was SEK 252 900. The median income for men was SEK 286 900 and SEK 225 000 for women.
