Labour Force Survey (LFS), March 2012:

Increased employment among women

In March 2012 the number of employed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 4 643 000. Compared to the same period last year this is an increase of 78 000, of whom 74 000 were women. The number of unemployed persons amounted to 389 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 7.7 percent. The number of hours worked increased by 2.3 percent. Seasonally adjusted data shows an increase of the employment among women.

In March 2012 the number of employed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 4 643 000. Compared to the same period last year this is an increase of 78 000, of whom 74 000 were woman. The employment rate was 65.4 percent, an increase of 0.7 percentage points. Among women the employment rate increased by 1.7 percentage points to 63.5 percent and the corresponding rate among men was 67.2. Seasonally adjusted the number of employed persons was 4 691 000, corresponding to an employment rate of 66.0 for the population aged 15-74.

On average, the number of hours worked in March 2012 amounted to 154.9 million per week, not seasonally adjusted. This is an increase of 2.3 percent when adjusted for calendar differences.

The number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 389 000 in March 2012, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 7.7 percent. The unemployment rate among women decreased by 1.3 percentage points to 7.3 percent and the employment rate among men was 8.1 percent. According to seasonally adjusted data the number of unemployed persons amounted to 371 000, resulting in an unemployment rate of 7.3 percent.

The number of persons outside the labour force in March 2012 was 2 069 000, which corresponds to 29.1 percent of the population.
