New construction of residential buildings, started dwellings, first quarter 2012:

Sharp decrease in construction of dwellings

During the 1st quarter 2012, construction of approximately 4 850 dwellings was started in new buildings. This is a decrease of 35 percent compared to same period 2011, when construction of 7 418 dwellings was started.

The distribution of dwellings during the period is as follows:

2012: 950 dwellings in one- or two-dwelling buildings and 3 900 in multi- dwelling buildings

2011:  1 877 dwellings in one- or two-dwelling buildings and 5 541 in multi-dwelling buildings

To make it easier to compare between years, the figures for 2012 are adjusted upwards by 35 percent, which is the average time lag in reporting in recent years.
