Living Conditions Survey (ULF/SILC):

Young women travel during holidays the most

Young women are the most frequent holiday travellers. 74 percent of those in this group took a trip that lasted at least one week during a one-year period. Altogether, travel during holidays for the entire adult population has been just under 60 percent during the last four years.

Statistics Sweden's Living Conditions Survey shows no statistically significant changes in the percentage of holiday travellers 2008–2011 in any of the groups presented. However, the levels vary among the groups. In the 16–24 age group, holiday travel was more frequent among women than men in 2011, 74 percent compared to 61 percent. During the same year, travel among women aged 25–34 was considerably lower (58 percent).

Among younger pensioners aged 65–74, both men and women travel to a relatively high extent during their holidays: 59 percent and 55 percent respectively in 2011, while travel seems to drop dramatically the older one is. Among those aged 75–84, about one in three men and women travel, while only about one in ten travels in the group age 85 and older.
Roughly 75 percent of upper level white collar workers took a holiday trip while only about 45 percent of unskilled and semi-skilled blue collar workers took a holiday trip during the previous 12 month period in 2011.
