The transition from upper secondary school to higher education, School year 2010/11:

Natural science pupils most likely to continue with higher education

Of those pupils who completed the natural science programme during the 2007/08 academic year, 84 percent of both the women and the men began studies at universities or other higher education institutions within 3 years.

Of all the pupils who continued upper secondary school during the 2007/08 academic year, 44 percent began higher education studies within 3 years. The proportion was higher among women than among men, 49 percent compared to 38 percent.

Three fourths of upper secondary pupils in Danderyd continued on to higher education within 3 years

75 percent of the pupils who completed upper secondary school in Danderyd during the 2007/08 academic year began higher education within three years. Other pupils who began higher education to a great extent were from Lidingö (69 percent), Lund (68 percent), Lomma (66 percent) and Uppsala (62 percent).

Definitions and explanations

The statistics include pupils who completed upper secondary school and received a leaving certificate or similar.

A student is counted as a student in higher education in the term that he/she was registered in higher education for the first time after completing upper secondary school.
