During the first quarter the Riksbank increased its assets in foreign debt securities and increased its government borrowing. This was a result of the decision of the Riksbank to strengthen reserve assets that were financed by the government issues of government bonds in foreign currency. The trend from the previous quarter remained and non-financial corporations continued to decrease their debts in inter-company loans abroad.

Household consumption and investments in inventory contributed the most to GDP growth. This is illustrated in an analysis of the statistics presented in The Swedish economy – a statistical perspective, number 2/2013.
