The Service Producer Price Index (SPPI)
The Service Producer Price Index (SPPI) aims to measure the development of prices in Swedish industries that provide services.
The SPPI is from a producer perspective, meaning that the price index should reflect the change of the actual revenue the producer receives.
The producer price indices for services are primarily used by the Swedish national accounts to calculate the production value of services at constant prices on a product group level. Contract regulations are another area of use.
From the first quarter of 2008 onwards, the SPPI will be published as an aggregated index, in addition to indices on product levels. In order to cover a major part of the value of the Swedish trade and industry’s service production, the aggregated SPPI consists of a weighted and combined computation of available price indices for business services (SPPI), and a number of consumer price indices (CPI) for services. Historical data as from the first quarter of 2005 will also be published.
