The diagrams show balances, i. e. the proportion responding "better" minus the proportion responding "worse". The results from 1993 to 2001 have been processed by the NIER to facilitate comparison with the latest results. A brief description of the method used is available on the NIER:s website, http://www.konj.se. The website also provides all results from 1996 onward, with a breakdown by gender, and the balances shown in the diagrams.
The Micro Index is calculated as an average of the balances for the two questions on personal finances at present and in the next 12 months, and for the questions whether now is a good time to buy consumer durables and whether the respondent intends to increase such purchases in the next 12 months.
