Industrial production decreased in December

Industrial production decreased by 1.8 percent in December compared with November in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with December 2015, industrial production decreased by 0.9 percent in calendar adjusted figures.
Among the industry sub-sectors, the largest decrease compared with the previous month was in the aggregate of the electronics industry, while the largest increase was in the industry for fabricated metal products. In the last three months, October to December 2016, industrial production increased by 1.2 percent compared with the previous three months, July to September 2016, in seasonally adjusted figures.
On an annual basis, industrial production decreased by 0.9 percent in calendar adjusted figures. The strongest decrease came from the manufacture of industry for other transport equipment, while the industry for basic metals showed the largest increase.
The figures for November 2016 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in industrial production in November 2016 compared with October 2016 has been revised downwards by 0.1 percentage points to an increase of 1.1 percent. The change in production in November 2016 compared with the corresponding month the previous year has been revised downwards by 0.2 percentage points to a decrease of 0.1 percent.
It is relevant to analyse the seasonal and calendar adjustments for a better understanding of the statistics.

Development of Index of Service Production
Revisions
When the Industrial Production Index for a new month is published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for two to four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
