The number of employed persons continued to increase

In October 2017, there were 5 041 000 employed persons aged 15–74, not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 111 000 persons compared with October 2016. There were 337 000 unemployed persons and the unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. The number of hours worked averaged 172.1 million per week. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the number of employed persons and small changes in the unemployment rate, which was 6.7 percent.

In October 2017, there were 5 041 000 employed persons aged 15─74, not seasonally adjusted, which was an increase of 111 000 compared with October 2016. The number of employed men were 2 629 000 and the number of employed women were 2 413 000, which was an increase of 49 000 and 62 000 respectively. The employment rate was 67.9 percent, an increase of 0.8 percentage points. Among women, the employment rate was 66.1 percent, an increase of 1.1 percentage points. Among men, it was 69.7 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in both the number of employed persons and in the employment rate compared with recent months. The number of employed persons were 5 052 000, which corresponds to an employment rate of 68.1 percent.

The number of employees aged 15─74 in October 2017 amounted to 4 547 000, not seasonally adjusted. Compared with October 2016, this was an increase of 117 000 of which 58 000 were men and 60 000 were women. The number of permanent employees in the same period amounted to 3 784 000, an increase of 84 000 of which 51 000 were men. The number of temporary employees amounted to 762 000. Compared with nearby months, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the number of permanent employees and small changes in the number of temporary employees.

On average, the number of hours worked in October 2017 amounted to 172.1 million per week, not seasonally adjusted. Calendar adjusted figures show an increase of 1.4 percent compared with October 2016. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a small increase in the number of hours worked per week. In October 2017, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data amounted to 152.7 million hours worked per week.

In October 2017, the number of unemployed persons aged 15─74 amounted to 337 000, not seasonally adjusted, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.3 percent. The number of unemployed men amounted to 183 000 and the number of unemployed women amounted to 154 000. Among men, the unemployment rate was 6.5 percent and among women it was 6.0 percent. The number of unemployed young people aged 15─24 was 85 000, of whom 45 000 were full time students. The unemployment rate among young people was 13.9 percent. Among persons aged 15–74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows small changes in both the number of unemployed persons and in the unemployment rate. The number of unemployed persons was 361 000 in October 2017, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.7 percent. Among young people aged 15─24, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows small changes in the number of unemployed persons and a small decrease in the unemployment rate. The number of young people who were unemployed was 110 000, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 17.4 percent.
