Definitions and explanations

New design from second quarter 2011

Changes have been made to the survey design that have affected estimation levels. Comparisons with previous quarters should be made with caution.

New classification from second quarter 2015

A new classification of sectors has been introduced from the second quarter of 2015. The private sector has been primarily affected, now that the non-profit institutions serving households sector is reported separately. As a result of this change, the private sector is referred to as the business sector. The public sector (municipality, county council and central government) is affected only marginally by the change.

Sick pay period: The period when an employee is absent from work due to sickness and is eligible for sick pay.

Sick days: All calendar days in the sick period, regardless of whether the employee is reimbursed for all days with sick pay or not.

Sick period: Each time an employee begins a sick period a new period is generated, regardless of how many sick days the period consists of. The survey presents periods that were completed during the quarter.
