Definitions and explanations
Important information on preliminary and final Labour Cost Indices.
A preliminary index, excluding retroactive wages, is published about 8 weeks after the end of the measuring period. The definitive index, which includes retroactive wages, is published about 12 months later. New additions of earning data and computed retroactive wages and salaries are included in the definitive Labour Cost Index.
Users of the Labour Cost Index as a basis for price adjustments should note that a mixture of preliminary and final indices could lead to a bias in favour of one party at the expense of the other. Therefore, either preliminary or final indices should be used consistently throughout as a basis for price adjustments.
