1) The adjustment item is the part of the population increase that cannot be explained by a birth surplus or immigration surplus. It includes births, deaths and occurences of immigration and emigration that were reported during the year, but that occured before 1 January.

2) The preliminary statistics for 2017 have been compared with definitive monthly statistics at the end of 2016.

Comments

Population Growth during 2017 has depended some 84 per cent on net immigration and some 16 per cent on population surplus.

The population increase is the sum of net births and net immigrations. However, the increase for 2017 also includes births, deaths, occurences of immigration and emigration that were reported during the year, but occured before 1 January. This is an adjustment item for the part of the population increase that cannot be explained by a birth surplus or immigration surplus during the year.

Definitions and explanations

From May 2009 onwards, persons in same-sex marriages are included in the statistics on married and divorced.
