Construction Cost Index for buildings, August 2017:

Construction costs rose by 2.6 percent on an annual basis

Factor Price Index for multi-dwelling buildings rose by 0.1 percent between July and August 2017. Factor prices increased by 2.6 percent on an annual basis.

The development in the last month

The factor price index rose by 0.1 percent and contractors’ costs, with a weight of over 82 percent of the factor price index, rose by the same amount between July and August 2017.

Costs for machinery and expenses, as well as the transport, fuel and electric power group were among the contractors’ costs that increased. Wages, salaries and construction material remained unchanged.

Plumbing material, iron and steel, as well as wood products rose, while other construction material and floor material fell. Prices in other building material groups remained unchanged.

Investor costs rose. This increase is due to rising interest costs and slightly higher general costs between July and August.

The development in the past year

The factor price index and contractors’ costs, which have the largest weight in the factor price index, both rose by 2.6 percent.

The transport, fuel and electric power group increased the most. The machinery, expenses and wages and salaries groups also increased.

Building material costs rose by 3.1 percent. The largest increase in the building material group was in reinforcement steel, at 5.8 percent. Concrete products, that carry the largest weight, rose by 2.7 percent. Other building material groups also increased.

Investor costs rose by 2.5 percent between August 2016 and August 2017.
