Construction costs increased by 2.6 percent on an annual basis

Construction cost index for multi-dwelling buildings rose by 0.1 percent between October and November 2017. The Construction cost index increased by 2.6 percent on an annual basis.

The development in the last month

The Construction cost index rose by 0.1 percent between October and November 2017. During the corresponding period of 2016, the Construction cost index rose with 0.2 percent. The contractor's costs, which weigh more than 82 percent of the Construction cost index, increased by 0.2 percent between October and November 2017.

Among the contractor's costs the transport, fuel and electricity group increased. Building materials and machinery also increased. Expenses, wages and salaries remained unchanged.

In the group of building materials, the price development of reinforcement steel continued to rice most of all materials. Also iron and steel, plumbing material, other material, concrete, floor material and white goods rose between October and November. The other material varieties remained having unchanged prices.

Investor costs decreased by 0.4 percent between October and November 2017. This is due to decreased interest expenses.

The development in the past year

The Construction cost index rose by 2.6 percent and the contractor's costs, increased by 2.5 percent between November 2016 and November 2017. The contractor's costs made the effect on the total index increase by 2.1 percentage points during the same period.

The transport, fuel and electricity group increased most of the contractor's costs, but also the machines, building materials, overheads and wages groups rose.

Building material costs rose by 2.8 percent. The largest price increases in the building material group was reinforcement steel and iron and steel, which increased by 9.6 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively. The cost of other building material groups also increased.

Investor costs rose by 3.2 percent between October 2016 and October 2017.
