Construction Cost Index for buildings, September 2017:

Construction costs increased by 2.6 per cent on an annual basis

Factor Price Index for multi-dwelling buildings rose by 0.1 percent between August and September 2017. Factor prices increased by 2.6 percent on an annual basis.

The development in the last month

The factor price index rose by 0.1 per cent between August and September 2017. During the corresponding period of 2016, the factor price index had the same change. The contractor's costs, which weigh more than 82 percent of the factor price index, increased by 0.1 percent between August and September 2017.

Costs for the transport, fuel and electric power group as well as expenses and building material were among the contractors costs that increased. Wages, salaries, machinery and construction material remained unchanged.

Reinforcement steel and iron and steel both rose more during the month than they have done for several months. Painting, other building materials and concrete products rose, while electricity and timber fell. the other material groups had unchanged prices.

Investor costs increased by 0.4 percent between August and September 2017.

The development in the past year

The factor price index and the contractor's costs, which have the largest weight in the factor price index, both increased by 2.6 percent between September 2016 and September 2017. Entrepreneur's costs increased the total index by 2.1 percentage points.

The transport, fuel and electricity group increased most of the contractor's costs, but also the machines, building materials, overheads and wages groups rose.

Building material costs rose by 2.9 percent. The largest increases in the building material group was reinforcement steel and iron and steel, which increased by 8.6 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively. The cost of other building material groups also increased.

Investor costs rose by 2.9 percent between September 2016 and September 2017.
