Producer prices decreased slightly in March 2017

Producer prices decreased by 0.1 percent between February and March. In the same period, prices decreased by 0.7 percent on the import market and by 0.1 percent on the domestic market. Prices remained unchanged on the export market.

Lower prices in several product groups contributed to the downturn on the import market as well as the domestic market. On the import market, lower prices on crude oil and communication equipment accounted for the largest contribution to the decrease. On the domestic market, lower prices on electricity contributed most to the downturn.

Prices for domestic supply decreased in March

Domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, decreased by 0.4 percent from February to March. Prices increased by 6.0 percent compared with March last year.

Compared with March last year, producer prices have increased by 6.5 percent. In the same period, prices on the export market and the import market increased by 7.5 percent and 6.7 percent respectively. On the domestic market, prices increased by 5.5 percent in the same period.

Changes in exchange rates in March

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish kronor. According to Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish krona depreciated against the British pound by 1.3 percent, against the Norwegian krone by 1.1 percent and against the US dollar by 0.3 percent. The Swedish currency appreciated by 0.8 percent against the Danish krone and the euro.

New product classification

From the publication of indices for April (24 May 2017), the Producer and Import Price Index will be published according to both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015. Price indices according to both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available according to SPIN 2015. From the publication of indices for January 2018, the dissemination in the statistical news will be based on SPIN 2015 with base year 2015=100. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015 when it is available.

The differences between the two classifications are small. Most changes occur within divisions in Sections A–E.
