Service prices decreased during third quarter

The Service Producer Price Index decreased 0.1 percent between the second and the third quarter 2017. The corresponding change in the previous quarter was an increase by 0.5 percent. Since the third quarter 2016, the Service Producer Price Index has increased 1.7 percent, which means that SPPI is still on the highest annual rate since second quarter 2012, as the corresponding annual rate for the previous quarter was an upturn of 1.7 percent as well.
Main contributors to the quarterly downturn were lower prices for Computer facilities management services and Information services, that each contributed 0.1 percentage points to the downturn. The downturn was partly offset by higher prices for Other transportation support activities, that contributed up 0.1 percentage point.

Definitions and explanations
New product classification
As of the publication of the first quarter 2017, the Producer Price Index for Services (SPPI) is published according to both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015. Price indices according to both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. During 2019 price indices will be available by SPIN 2015 only. As of the publication of indices for the first quarter of 2018 the dissemination in the statistical news will be based on SPIN 2015 with base year 2015=100. Users are recommended to start to use SPIN 2015 as soon as possible.
