88 000 residents now have the chance to have their say about their municipality

Pressmeddelande | 2016-09-20

The time has come for the autumn round of Statistics Sweden's Citizen Survey. Some 88 000 residents in 81 municipalities around Sweden will be receiving a questionnaire in the post and will thus have the chance to have their say about the activities in their municipalities and what it is like to live there.

The Citizen Survey is a questionnaire survey that Statistics Sweden on behalf of Sweden's municipalities has conducted twice per year since 2005. Since the start, a total of 265 of Sweden's 290 municipalities have chosen to take part in this survey at some point in time.

Interest for the Citizen Survey is growing among the country's municipalities and the autumn round with 81 participating municipalities is a new record. The more municipalities that participate, the more possibilities for municipalities to compare their results with other municipalities with similar conditions. This autumn the city of Gothenburg with its 550 000 residents and the northern municipality of Arjeplog with its roughly 3 000 residents will be participating.

The persons who take part in the survey are randomly selected from the population register. 600 persons each are chosen from municipalities with fewer than 10 000 inhabitants and 1 200 persons each are from larger municipalities. A total of 88 000 persons aged 18-84 are asked to take part in the autumn survey.

Other larger municipalities taking part besides Gothenburg include Uppsala, Västerås and Örebro.

To obtain the best quality in the survey it is important that as many as possible take part in the survey. The survey gives the opportunity for citizens to say what they think about possibilities for work and leisure time activities, housing and security. They can also say what they think about the municipal services such as childcare, schools and elderly care.

We are pleased that so many municipalities choose to use Statistics Sweden's Citizen Survey to find out how citizens feel about their municipalities. We hope that as many as possible take part in the survey and influence their municipalities, says Cecilia Berglund, Statistics Sweden, responsible for the survey.

Those taking part in the survey can either fill in the paper questionnaire or log on and answer online. Those who answer online can also choose to answer the questionnaire in English, Finnish or Spanish. If you prefer to answer a paper questionnaire translated to Arabic, you can order such a version from Statistics Sweden.

The results of the autumn survey will be sent to the participating municipalities in the beginning of December. On 14 December all results will be published here on
