During the first quarter of 2016 the labour force participation among persons aged 20-64 amounted to 88.3 percent among men and 83.3 percent among women. The difference in the labour force participation among men and women has decreased over time. For people with children 7 years or older living at home the employment rate among men was significantly higher than among women. Among men with less than an upper secondary level of education 77.6 percent were employed during the first quarter of 2016. The corresponding figure for women was 42.5 percent. Women with a tertiary education were to a lesser extent long-term unemployed compared to men.
