Population statistics, January-June 2014:
The population in Sweden has continued to grow during the first half of 2014. At the end of the first half of the year, the population amounted to 9 694 194 persons, an increase of 49 330 persons since the end of 2013. The increase is due to a greater immigration than emigration as well as a surplus of births. The unrest in Syria has led to considerable immigration and is one of the reasons for the large increase in the population. Syrian citizens comprised the largest group of immigrants.
