Producer and import price index, February 2016

Minor increase in export- and import prices

Producer prices in total decreased 0.1 percent between January and February. During the same period prices increased 0.4 percent on the export market and 0.1 percent on the import market. On the domestic market prices decreased 0.4 percent.

Lower prices for electricity gave the largest contribution to the downturn on the domestic market for February. Several groups, including machinery and equipment, contributed to the upturn on the export- and the import market. Lower prices on electricity counteracted the upturn on both markets.

Prices for domestic supply, that is, domestic and import markets together, decreased 0.2 percent from January to February and by 4.8 percent compared to February last year.

Compared to February last year producer prices in total have decreased by 4.2 percent. During the same period prices decreased 5.8 percent on the export market and 2.4 percent on the domestic market. On the import market prices have decreased by 7.0 percent during the same period.

Changes in exchange rates in February

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to respectively lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish kronor. According to the Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish krona appreciated against the British pound by 3.6 percent. The Swedish krona depreciated against the Euro and the Danish krone by 1.2 percent and against the US dollar by 1.1 percent. The exchange rate against the Norwegian krone remained unchanged during the period.
