Statistics Sweden to publish new activity indicator

| Press releases

On Monday 8 June at 10:00, Statistics Sweden will publish a new activity indicator for April 2020. The purpose is to highlight the collected activities in the economy during the coronavirus outbreak.

The new indicator is published in response to the great interest in the effects of the coronavirus crisis on the Swedish economy. Publication will be separate from the ordinary statistical production and will take the form of a press release on the website scb.se.

“The activity indicator is based on other statistics from Statistics Sweden and is being produced in view of the ongoing pandemic and the major changes occurring in the economy. It is intended to highlight the collected activities in the Swedish economy in a way similar to the description of growth in GDP,” says Daniel Lennartsson, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

The activity indicator shows how the Swedish economy has developed on a monthly basis, unlike the quarterly National Accounts. It is based on a considerably smaller material than the GDP calculations and therefore is less reliable.
