  • Stable Swedish economy despite weak start of the year

    The Swedish economy started the year a little tentatively. After a very strong fourth quarter last year, GDP was unchanged in the first quarter of this year. Household consumption continued to increase and has had a positive trend for three years. The monthly GDP indicator has shown an increase in both March and April.

  • Somewhat brighter economic conditions

    The condition in the Swedish economy is somewhat stronger than normal. The picture is still mixed, but during the past half year many indicators have moved from recovery to expansion.

  • Mixed picture of the Business Cycle

    Statistics Sweden’s Business Cycle Clock showed that the business cycle situation was stronger in February 2026 than in February 2025. The signals are mixed, though. The upturn slowed down in the end of 2025 and in the beginning of 2026 the Business Cycle Clock have only showed small changes.

  • The business cycle upturn lost speed

    The Swedish economy was strengthened during 2025 with increasing GDP growth. Government consumption and investments drove growth in the fourth quarter. Monthly indicators showed a downturn in December. The downward trend continued in January 2026.

  • Subdued business cycle in December

    The Swedish business cycle was somewhat subdued in December compared to November. Statistics Sweden’s Business Cycle Clock showed a somewhat weaker business cycle situation than normal, but the signals are mixed. The indicators were equally distributed between recession, recovery and expansion phase.
