  • Decline in Swedish Aquaculture

    In 2024, the Swedish aquaculture production of fish for consumption decreased by approximately six percent compared to the previous year. The production of stocking fish declined even more – by a full 44 percent. Rainbow trout remains the most common species for both fish for consumption and stocking fish, although its production has also decreased.

  • Rainbow trout amount to 87 percent of Swedish fish production for consumption

    Fish production for consumption was estimated at 9 700 ton in round live weight in 2023. This is about 200 tonnes, equivalent to 2 percent, more than in 2022. However, fish production for restocking increased with almost 39 percent since the year before, from 860 tonnes to 1 190 tonnes.

  • Aquaculture production rose slightly

    Fish production for consumption was estimated at 9 900 tonnes in round live weight in 2020. This is just under 300 tonnes, equivalent to 3 percent, more than in 2019.
