    In 2024, Sweden devoted 8% of its GDP to education. Total expenditure on education amounted to SEK 512 billion, with nearly 70% accounted for by children and students in the school system covering preschool through upper secondary levels.

  • The cost per pupil continues to decrease

    The cost per child in preschool and pupil in compulsory school continues to decrease since 2021. Moreover, the 2023 statistics show that the cost per pupil in upper secondary school is the lowest in tern years, since 2013.

  • Lowest cost per pupil for many years

    The cost per pupil in primary school has now decreased for the first time since 2011. Statistics for 2022 show that the cost per pupil is the lowest since 2018. The cost per pupil is also decreasing in preschool and upper secondary school.
