  • Fewer participants in Folk high schools

    The number of participants has decreased for the second consecutive year across all three types of adult education courses within folk high schools. The largest decrease was among men in short courses, which in 2024 were 14 percent fewer than the year before.

  • Participation in folk high school most common in the northern parts of Sweden

    The proportion of residents in Norrbotten and Västerbotten who studied at a folk high school within their own county is more than three times higher compered to the average of Sweden. The counties of Uppsala, Halland and Kronoberg have the lowest participation rate among residents.

  • More women among the participants in folk high school

    Among all of those who participated in at least one course in folk high school during 2022, almost two out of three are women. The difference between the proportion of women and the proportion of men has increased slightly every year for the past five years.

  • More than half start some form of study

    Among those who have received basic eligibility through the folk high school's general courses, it is common to study further mainly in universities, municipal adult education and folk high school’s special courses.
