Strong second quarter for foreign trade in goods

In the second quarter of 2026, exports of goods rose by 10 percent in value and by 5 percent in volume compared with the same period a year ago. At the same time, imports of goods increased by 14 percent in value and by 7 percent in volume.
- Imports of crude petroleum oils increased by 82 percent in value in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period last year, which amounted to about SEK 19 billion, says Ari Mansikkaviita, statistician at Statistics Sweden. This is primarily due to the higher prices of crude petroleum oils. In terms of volume, the increase was 25 percent.

- In the second quarter of 2026, Swedish exports of goods increased by 10 percent in value (in current prices) and by 5 percent in terms of volume (in constant prices), compared with the same period a year ago. At the same time, imports of goods rose by 14 percent in value and by 7 percent in volume.

Exports of mineral fuels/electric current rose by 72 percent in value and by 16 percent in volume
Exports of machinery/transport equipment increased by 4 percent in value and by 2 percent in volume, compared with the same quarter last year. Exports of wood and paper products rose by 3 percent in value, and by 9 percent in volume. Exports of chemicals/rubber products increased by 12 percent in value, and by 17 percent in volume. Within this product area, exports of pharmaceutical products rose by 16 percent in value and by 34 percent in volume. Exports of mineral fuels/electric current increased by 72 percent in value, and by 16 percent in volume. The difference between value and volume development is due to higher prices for mineral fuels/electric current. Within the other products area, exports of food/beverages/tobacco rose by 6 percent in both value and volume.

Imports of crude petroleum oils rose by 82 percent in value and by 25 percent in volume

Within this product area, imports of electronics/telecommunications increased by 29 percent in value, and by 18 percent in volume. Imports of minerals rose by 19 percent in value, and by 6 percent in volume. Imports of chemicals/rubber products increased by 13 percent in value, and by 7 percent in volume. Imports of mineral fuels/electric current rose by 65 percent in value, and by 13 percent in volume. Within this product area, imports of crude petroleum oils increased by 82 percent in value, and by 25 percent in volume. The difference between value and volume development is due to higher prices for mineral fuels/electric current. Within the other products area, imports of food/beverages/tobacco rose by 3 percent in value, and by 4 percent in volume.

Exports of pharmaceutical products increased by 5 percent in value and by 25 percent in volume
Exports of machinery/transport equipment remained the same in value in the first six months of 2026, while they increased by 2 percent in volume, compared with the same period a year ago. Exports of wood and paper products fell by 5 percent in value, while they rose by 2 percent in volume. Exports of minerals increased by 6 percent in value, while they fell by 3 percent in volume. Exports of chemicals/rubber products increased by 2 percent in value, and by 13 percent in volume. Within this product area, exports of pharmaceutical products rose by 5 percent in value and by 25 percent in volume. Exports of mineral fuels/electric current increased by 35 percent in value, and by 12 percent in volume. Within the other products area, food/beverages/tobacco increased by 2 percent in value, and by 5 percent in volume.
Imports of electronics/telecommunication rose by 22 percent in value and by 18 percent in volume
Imports of machinery/transport equipment increased by 8 percent in both value and volume in the first six months of 2026, compared with the same period a year ago. Within this product area imports of electronics/telecommunication rose by 22 percent in value and by 18 percent in volume. Imports of wood and paper products fell by 7 percent in value, and by 3 percent in volume. Imports of minerals increased by 11 percent in value, and by 5 percent in volume. Imports of chemicals/rubber products rose by 5 percent in value, and by 4 percent in volume. Imports of mineral fuels/electric current increased by 28 percent in value, and by 8 percent in volume. Within the other products area, imports of food/beverages/tobacco rose by 2 percent in value, and by 5 percent in volume.

Exports of goods to China fell by 10 percent
Sweden’s exports of goods to EU27 increased by 7 percent, and imports from there by 10 percent, compared with the same period a year ago. Exports to euro countries rose by 6 percent and imports from there by 9 percent. Among the EU countries, exports to Germany increased by 5 percent, to Denmark by 7 percent, to Finland by 10 percent, and to the Netherlands by 24 percent. Imports from both Germany and Denmark rose by 5 percent, from Finland by 12 percent, and from the Netherlands by 23 percent.
Exports to other European countries increased by 2 percent, and imports from there by 9 percent. Exports to the United Kingdom fell by 5 percent, while imports from there rose by 10 percent. Exports to Norway increased by 5 percent, and imports from there by 13 percent. Exports to Russia rose by 51 percent, while imports from there fell by 60 percent. In the period, exports of pharmaceutical products accounted for the increase to Russia.
Exports to Asia fell by 7 percent, and imports from there by 1 percent. Exports to China decreased by 10 percent, and imports from there by 2 percent.
Exports to the United States of America decreased by 7 percent, while imports from there increased by 4 percent.
