Net trade balance at SEK -8.9 billion in August

In August 2025, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 144.0 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 152.9 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK -8.9 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade deficit of SEK -8.9 billion in August 2025, according to preliminary calculations. In August 2024, there was a net trade surplus of SEK -6.3 billion.
The value of exports in August 2025 was SEK 144.0 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 152.9 billion. The corresponding values for August 2024 were SEK 151.7 billion for exports and SEK 158.0 billion for imports. Exports of goods have decreased by 5 percent and imports of goods decreased by 3 percent compared to August 2024. The number of weekdays in August 2025 was one less compared with August 2024.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 11.3 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 20.2 billion.

Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 4.6 billion in August, compared with a surplus of SEK 5.6 billion in July. The corresponding figure for June was a surplus of SEK 6.7 billion.
Net trade (January – August 2025) showed a surplus of SEK 55.7 billion
During the last eight months, the value of both exports of goods and imports of goods decreased by 1 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 1355.5 billion and imports were valued at SEK 1299.8 billion. The net trade for January – August 2025 thus resulted in a surplus of SEK 55.7 billion. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a surplus of SEK 55.8 billion.
