In May 2023, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 177.4 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 177.7 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK -0.3 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade deficit of SEK 0.3 billion in May 2023, according to preliminary calculations. In May 2022, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 5.3 billion.
The value of exports in May 2023 was SEK 177.4 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 177.7 billion. The corresponding values for May 2022 were SEK 172.1 billion for exports and SEK 177.4 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus increased by 3 percent in value while imports are unchanged compared with May 2022. The number of weekdays in May 2023 was the same as it was in May 2022.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 24.2 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 24.5 billion.

Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 0.2 billion in May, compared with a surplus of SEK 0.9 billion in April. The corresponding figure for March was a surplus of SEK 1.6 billion.
Net trade (January – May 2023) showed a surplus of SEK 17.7 billion
During the last five months, the value of exports of goods increased by 9 percent and the value of imports of goods increased by 6 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 877.9 billion and imports were valued at SEK 860.2 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 17.7 billion for January - May 2023. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a deficit of SEK 4.8 billion.
