Investments increased in the third quarter 2022

The investment rate of enterprises increased in the third quarter compared with the third quarter of 2021.

The outcome of the Investment Survey shows that the enterprises’ investments rose by 24 percent, corresponding to SEK 17.8 billion, in the third quarter of 2022 compared with the third quarter 2021. Total investments in the third quarter amounted to SEK 92.2 billion, which is SEK 14.5 billion, equivalent to 14 percent, less than in the second quarter of 2022.

Most industries increased their investments in the third quarter of 2022 compared with the third quarter of 2021. In percentage terms banks and insurance companies noted the largest increase, at 231 percent, and amounted to an investment level of SEK 3.6 billion. The Transportation and storage industry increased investments by SEK 2.5 billion, equivalent to 70 percent. Information and communication companies decreased investments by 13 percent compared with the third quarter of 2021.

Many industries decreased investments between the second and third quarters of 2022. Investments by the Construction industry decreased the most, declining by 21 percent. Investments by the information and communication industry declining by 19 percent.

Furthermore, the industries business services, banks and insurance companies, and construction decreased their investments in the third quarter compared with the second quarter of 2022. On the other hand, the Transportation and storage industry increased investments by 20 percent and amounted to an investment level of SEK 6.0 billion.

Total investments by the manufacturing industry

Based on the investment survey, total investments by the manufacturing industry will amount to SEK 72.7 billion in 2022 and SEK 75.8 billion in 2023. If these forecasts are realised, this will mean an increase of 4 percent in 2023 compared with 2022.

Definitions and explanations

All the data in this statistical news is reported in current prices. All comparisons have been made with the corresponding quarter in 2021 and previous quarter 2022.

These statistics are based on data from Statistics Sweden’s Business Register database. All enterprises with at least 200 employees are included, while enterprises with between 20 and 199 employees are sampled. In some activities, enterprises with between 5 and 199 employees are sampled. Enterprises in the mining, quarrying, and manufacturing industry sector with between 10 and 19 employees are taxed based on investment information from enterprises with between 20 and 49 employees.

The sectors included in this survey are SNI 05–49 (excl. 49.32), 51–53, 58, 61–63, 64.1, 65, 68 (excl. 68.204), 71–75, and 77–82 according to NACE Rev 2.
