Orders in industry decreased in April

Total orders in industry decreased by 2.5 percent in April 2021 compared with March, in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with April 2020, total orders in industry increased by 30.5 percent in calendar-adjusted figures.
The industrial subsectors noted a mixed development on a monthly basis. The largest decrease was noted in the industry for printing and reproduction of recorded media, down by 28.3 percent. The largest increase was noted in the industry for other transport equipment, up by 25.6 percent. Total orders in industry decreased both on the domestic market and on the export market. Compared with March, the domestic market decreased by 0.4 percent and the export market decreased by 3.4 percent, in seasonally adjusted figures.
Total orders in industry increased on an annual basis
The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact orders in industry in March 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.
On an annual basis, total orders in industry increased by 30.5 percent compared with April 2020, in calendar-adjusted figures. Orders received from customers in Sweden increased by 15.9 percent and orders received from customers abroad increased by 42.8 percent.
Total orders in industry in March have been revised
The figures for April are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the seasonally adjusted monthly development in March compared with February has been revised upwards by 0.6 percentage points to -1.2 percent. The calendar-adjusted development in March compared with March of the previous year has been revised upwards by 0.9 percentage points to 10.9 percent.

Definitions and explanations
Revisions
When the orders index and the turnover index for a new month are published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for between two and four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
