Orders to industry decreased in May

Total orders to industry decreased by 1.8 percent in May 2018 compared with April, in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with May 2017, total orders to industry increased by 1.4 percent, in calendar adjusted figures.
The monthly change in total orders was negative in both the domestic and the export market. Compared with April, the domestic market declined by 1.3 percent and the export market declined by 2.4 percent, both in seasonally adjusted figures. The largest decrease was provided by the industry for other transport equipment, which decreased by 43.6 percent compared with April. However, a majority of industrial subdivisions showed positive monthly developments in seasonally adjusted figures. The largest increase came from the printing industry, which increased by 16.4 percent compared with April.
On an annual basis, total orders to industry increased by 1.4 percent compared with May 2017, in calendar adjusted figures. Orders received from customers in Sweden increased by 1.7 percent and orders received from customers abroad increased by 1.3 percent.
The figures for May are preliminary. Since the previous publication, seasonally adjusted monthly developments in April compared with March have been revised up by 1.1 percentage points to a monthly development of 3.7 percent. The calendar adjusted developments in April compared with April of the previous year have been revised up by 1.6 percentage points to an annual development of 4.8 percent.

Definitions and explanations
Revisions
When the orders index and the turnover index for a new month are published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for between two and four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar-adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
