Analysis and statistics concerning education of the population :

Among young people in Sweden, one out of three has been abroad for learning purposes

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2017-02-06 9.30

Among all 2.2 million people aged 18 to 34 years in 2014, about 700 000 had been abroad for learning purposes once in their lives. This corresponds to a third of the surveyed age group.

Among those with an extensive post-secondary education, about 17 percent had been abroad for at least three months within the framework of their post-secondary studies. About 11 percent had attended some courses abroad that can be credited to their Swedish education. About six percent had attended a complete education programme abroad. The percentage of those who had been abroad within the framework of their post-secondary education is close to the European benchmark of 20 percent.

Barely one out of ten among those with completed upper secondary vocational education had been abroad for at least two weeks within the framework of their upper secondary education. This percentage in Sweden was higher, as early as 2014, than the benchmark of six percent set up by the European Union.
