The fund wealth are once again increasing

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority 2023-02-24 8.00

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2022, the total fund wealth in Swedish funds amounted to SEK 5,987 billion. This is an increase of SEK 326 billion, equivalent to a rise of 5.8%, compared to the previous quarter. The increased fund wealth are reflected in positive net transactions and a favorable development on the stock exchange.

Fourth quarter in brief:

  • The total net investments amounted to SEK 63.8 billion.
  • Households had negative net investments amounting to SEK -1.4 billion.
  • Households' directly owned fund assets amounted to SEK 1,033 billion during the fourth quarter. This is SEK 46.4 billion more compared to the previous quarter and SEK 203 billion less than the fourth quarter of 2021.
  • For the household sector, the largest increase was in the Equity fund type, which accounted for 6.6% of the fund assets.
  • Households had positive net investments in Fund-of-funds and Other funds.
  • Mixed funds were the only fund types with negative net investments overall, SEK -2.4 billion.
  • Equity funds were the fund type with the highest net investments overall, SEK 41.2 billion.
  • Foreign owners' net investments amounted to SEK 21.3 billion during the quarter.

The exchange rate of the Swedish krona

The average exchange rate for one Euro during the quarter was 10.93 kronor compared to 10.62 kronor in the previous quarter. The average exchange rate for one US dollar was 10.72 kronor compared to 10.55 kronor in the previous quarter. The effect of these exchange rate changes is that the funds' investments in Euros and US dollars increased in value when measured in Swedish kronor.

Number of active funds in the statistics

During the fourth quarter, 12 new funds were added and 10 previously active funds were terminated or absorbed. In total, 823 active Swedish funds were listed, which is 2 more than the previous quarter.

Definitions and explanations

The statistics include investment funds registered in Sweden. Both mutual funds and special funds are included in the statistics. The other funds category includes funds that could not be classified under any other category, such as Hedge Funds.

The Swedish financial companies sector includes, for example, mutual fund insurance and premium pension savings and holdings in managed depots that may have households as the final owner.
