Total fund wealth amounted to SEK 4 786 billion at the end of December 2019, which is an increase of SEK 260 billion compared with the previous quarter. Households’ directly-owned fund wealth contributed SEK 46 billion to the increase in total fund wealth in Swedish-registered investment funds.

Positive net savings

Fund wealth increased the most in the Swedish financial enterprises sector, by SEK 184 million, with relatively large net investments of SEK 46 billion. The Swedish financial enterprises sector includes unit-linked funds and premium pension savings, as well as holdings by financial corporations that may have households as final owners. Foreign owners’ holdings increased by SEK 5 billion in the fourth quarter.

Equity funds was the fund category to increase most in the fourth quarter, by SEK 203 billion. A positive market development, together with large net investments amounting to SEK 33 billion are the cause of this increase. The second largest increase, SEK 25 billion, was in mixed funds, followed by SEK 11 billion in fund-of-funds.

Swedish krona continued to weaken

The average exchange rate for one euro was SEK 10.66 in the fourth quarter of 2019, unchanged from the third quarter. The Swedish krona was weakened against the US dollar, with an average exchange rate of SEK 9.63, compared with SEK 9.59 in the previous quarter.

Investments in foreign currency are affected by the development of the exchange rate, and a weaker krona increases the value of these holdings when converted to Swedish kronor. The development of the Swedish krona against the US dollar during the fourth quarter has contributed to the increase in value of investments in US dollars.

Number of active funds in the statistics

There were 743 active funds in the fourth quarter.
