Significant downturn in the market in shares and participations

The largest contributing factor to the change in the market value of insurance companies’ total investment assets in the first quarter of the year was the change in enterprises’ holdings in shares and participations. At the end of the first quarter, the market value of insurance companies’ holdings in this asset class amounted to SEK 3 014 billion, compared with SEK 3 420 billion in the previous quarter. In addition, total net sales of insurance companies’ assets in shares and participations amounted to SEK 9 billion.

Insurance companies increased their cash and bank balances

Cash and bank balances amounted to SEK 147 billion, which can be compared with SEK 96 billion in the previous quarter and SEK 112 billion in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

Non-life and life insurance in the first quarter

The market value of life insurance companies’ investment assets amounted to SEK 4 442 billion at the end of the first quarter, compared with SEK 4 776 billion in the previous quarter. The corresponding figure for non-life insurance companies amounted to SEK 558 billion at the end of the first quarter, compared with SEK 578 billion in the previous quarter.

Life insurance companies’ net investments in investment assets amounted to SEK 15 billion during the quarter, while non-life insurance companies made net investments of SEK 6 billion in the same period.
