Insurance companies’ capital investments have increased

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority 2021-09-06 9.30

In the second quarter of 2021, the market value of insurance companies’ investment assets rose to SEK 6 327 billion. This can be compared with SEK 6 083 billion at the end of the previous quarter, and SEK 5 268 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2020.

The quarter in brief

  • The total increase in the value of insurance companies’ investment assets of SEK 244 billion is mainly related to strong growth in holdings of shares and participations.
  • In relative terms, this growth was most notable among non-life insurance companies’ investments, in which there was a significant change in remuneration on capital in the past two quarters compared with previous trends.

Life insurance companies

  • Life insurance companies’ investment assets amounted to SEK 5 654 billion at the end of the second quarter, up by SEK 193 billion compared with the previous quarter.
  • Net transactions in capital investments amounted to SEK 11 billion during the quarter.

Non-life insurance companies

  • Non-life insurance companies’ investment assets amounted to SEK 672 billion at the end of the second quarter, up by SEK 51 billion compared with the previous quarter.
  • Net investments by these companies amounted to SEK 5 billion in the quarter.
