The quarter in brief

• In the fourth quarter of 2022, insurance companies' holdings in shares and participations increased from SEK 4,175 billion to SEK 4,311 billion, equivalent to an increase of 3.3 percent. For comparison, the market value of equity funds increased by 7.3 percent during the same quarter. For more info on equity funds see Investment funds, assets and liabilities.
• The net transactions for shares and participations amounted to SEK 9,808 billion during the current quarter, which represents a decrease from SEK 10,617 billion for the previous quarter and from SEK 29,765 billion for the corresponding quarter the year before.

Life insurance companies

• Decrease in other financial investments: Other financial investments decreased from 49,333 million kronor to 20,822 million kronor, representing a decrease of 28,511 million kronor or 58% from the previous quarter.
• Decrease in money market instruments: Money market instruments decreased from 14,959 million kronor to 5,539 million kronor, representing a decrease of 9,420 million kronor or 63% from the previous quarter.
• Increase in debentures and convertible loans: Debentures and convertible loans increased from 19,157 million kronor to 22,839 million kronor, representing an increase of 3,682 million kronor or 19% from the previous quarter.

Non-life insurance companies

• Increase in cash at bank and in hand: Cash at bank and in hand deposits increased from SEK 25,206 million to SEK 25,748 million, an increase of SEK 542 million or 2% from the previous quarter.
• Decrease in money market instruments: Money market instruments decreased from SEK 7,801 million to SEK 3,797 million, a decrease of SEK 4,004 million or 51% from the previous quarter.
• Decrease in other financial investments: Other financial investments decreased from SEK 6,166 million to SEK 4,564 million, a decrease of SEK 1,602 million or 26% from the previous quarter.
