The quarter in brief

• In the first quarter of 2023, insurance companies' holdings in shares and participations increased from SEK 4,311 billion to SEK 4,534 billion, equivalent to an increase of 5.2 percent. For comparison, the market value of equity funds increased by 8.6 percent during the same quarter^[1].
• The net transactions for shares and participations amounted to SEK 4 billion during the current quarter, which represents an increase from SEK 9.8 billion for the previous quarter, but a decrease from SEK 41.7 billion for the corresponding quarter the year before.

Life insurance companies

• Increase in money market instruments: Money market instruments increased from SEK 5.5 billion to SEK 45.7 billion, representing an increase of SEK 40.1 billion or 725% from the previous quarter.
• Increase in other financial investments: Other financial investments increased from SEK 20.8 billion to SEK 64.3 billion, representing an increase of SEK 43.5 billion or 209% from the previous quarter.
• Decrease in repurchase agreements: Repurchase agreements decreased from SEK 36.3 million to SEK 22.8 billion, a decrease of SEK 13.4 billion or 37% from the previous quarter.

Non-life insurance companies

• Increase in other financial investments: Other financial investments increased from SEK 4.6 billion to SEK 8.8 billion, an increase of SEK 4.2 billion or 93% from the previous quarter.
• Decrease in derivatives: Derivatives decreased from SEK 1.1 billion to SEK 0.6 billion, a decrease of SEK 0.5 billion or 47% from the previous quarter.
• Increase in accrued interest: Accrued interest increased from SEK 1 billion to SEK 1.4 billion, an increase of SEK 0.4 billion or 36% from the previous quarter.
