Developments in March 2021 in brief

Borrowing in debt securities increased

  • Debt securities denominated in US dollars increased by SEK 79 billion compared with February, of which SEK 30 billion was net issued in March. The difference of SEK 49 billion can be explained by the currency exchange effect.

Unsecured securities from monetary financial institutions increased

  • In March, unsecured debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest increase in liabilities in debt securities, at SEK 64 billion in total. This increase was mainly the effect of a weakened Swedish krona, although it was also due to net issues, mainly in US dollars.
  • Money market instruments for unsecured securities from monetary financial institutions increased by a value of SEK 83 billion compared with the previous month. The debt stock for bonds decreased by SEK 19 billion.
  • Borrowing for the non-financial sector decreased by SEK 13 billion. Securities denominated in euros were the main driver of the decrease, valued at SEK 17 billion.
