Borrowing in debt securities decreased

At the end of March, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 8 826 billion, down by SEK 157 billion from February. This decrease is mainly due to maturity and redemptions net for securities denominated in US dollars.

Developments in March 2022 in brief

Liabilities decreased in bonds and money market instruments

  • At the end of March, liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK
    8 826 billion, of which bonds accounted for 80 percent and money market instruments accounted for 20
  • Debt securities liabilities decreased for bonds and money market instruments by SEK 106 billion and SEK 51 billion respectively.
  • Debt securities denominated in US dollars decreased by SEK 75 billion net during March. This is due to bonds and money market instruments which have decreased by SEK 48 and SEK 26 billion net respectively.
  • The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 4 percent, down by 7 percentage points compared with February.

Decreased borrowing for monetary financial institutions, the central government and non-financial corporations

  • Borrowing in unsecured debt securities from monetary financial institutions decreased by SEK 85 Both bonds and money market instruments decreased by SEK 22 and SEK 62 billion respectively.
  • The central government (via the Swedish National Debt Office) and non-financial corporations decreased borrowing by SEK 49 and SEK 40 billion respectively during the month. Bonds mainly denominated in SEK valued at SEK 34 and SEK 15 billion respectively were behind the decrease.

Maturity structure

  • Debt securities valued at SEK 2 322 billion will reach maturity within six months. Approximately 45 percent are denominated in foreign currency, mainly US dollars and euros.
  • Securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for approximately half of the total maturity value within six months, valued at SEK 1 221
