Among the new dwellings, approximately 11 150 were in multi-dwelling buildings, an increase of 4 percent compared with the same period last year. In one- or two-dwelling buildings, construction of 2 250 dwellings was started in the first quarter, about 700 fewer than last year.

In addition, conversion of multi-dwelling buildings resulted in 550 dwellings started the first quarter of 2019, compared with 739 dwellings in the corresponding period in 2018.

The 2019 figures on new construction have been adjusted upwards by 8 percent, which is the average delay in the corresponding period in recent years. The 2019 figures for conversion have been adjusted upwards by 50 percent.
