Number of employed people continues to increase

In April 2018, there were 5 043 000 employed persons aged 15–74, not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 78 000 persons compared with April 2017. The number of permanent employees increased by 116 000 and amounted to 3 872 000. The number of hours worked averaged 165.5 million per week, an increase of 4.2 percent in calendar adjusted figures. There were 366 000 unemployed persons, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.8 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the employment rate and a decrease in the unemployment rate, which was 6.1 percent.

In April 2018, there were 5 043 000 employed persons aged 15─74, not seasonally adjusted, which was an increase of 78 000 compared with April 2017. The number of employed women increased by 51 000 to 2 417 000 and there were 2 627 000 employed men. The employment rate was 67.7 percent. Among men, the employment rate was 69.4 percent and among women, it was 66.0 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in the number of employed persons and in the employment rate compared with recent months. In April 2018, there were 5 097 000 employed persons, which corresponds to an employment rate of 68.4 percent.

The number of employees aged 15─74 in April 2018 increased by 77 000 compared with April 2017 and amounted to 4 560 000, not seasonally adjusted. Among women, the number of employees was 2 273 000, an increase of 40 000. Among men, the number of employees amounted to 2 287 000. The number of permanent employees in the same period increased by 116 000 and amounted to 3 872 000. Among men, the number of permanent employees amounted to 1 994 000, an increase of 75 000. Among women the number of permanent employees was 1 878 000, an increase of 41 000. There were 688 000 temporary employees. Compared with nearby months, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the total number of employees. The number of permanent employees increased and the number of temporary employees decreased.

On average, the number of hours worked in April 2018 amounted to 165.5 million per week, not seasonally adjusted, an increase of 4.2 percent in calendar adjusted figures. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data also shows an increase in the number of hours worked per week compared with recent months. On average, the number of hours worked amounted to 156.2 million per week in April 2018.

In April 2018, the number of unemployed persons aged 15─74 amounted to 366 000, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.8 percent. There were 199 000 unemployed men and 167 000 unemployed women. The unemployment rate was 7.0 percent among men and 6.5 percent among women. Among young people aged 15─24 there were 109 000 unemployed people, of whom 71 000 were full-time students. The unemployment rate among young people was 17.9 percent. Among persons aged 15–74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a decrease both in the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate. There were 333 000 unemployed persons in April 2018, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent. Among young people aged 15─24, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a decrease in both the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate. There were 98 000 unemployed young people, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 15.8 percent.
