In 2021 7,5 percent of children under the age of 18, living at home, had a low income standard, meaning that the family’s income is not enough to meet basic needs. That is a decrease of 3 percentage points, when compared to 2014.

New statistics on finances among families with children

The 2021 statistics on finances among families with children is now available in the Statistical Database. In addition to statistics on children who have a low income standard, the statistics contain information on children who have a low/high income relative the median, children whose families have received economic support and family support as a share of the disposable income.

Definitions and explanations

Low income standard

Low income standard is an absolute measure of poverty. The indicator classifies households with low income and measures the share of people living in households not able to meet basic needs, such as housing costs, costs of child care, local transportations etc.
