According to the 2018 survey on ICT usage in households and by individuals, more people living in Sweden purchase goods and services online than before. Medicine purchases have increased considerably, from 5 percent in 2014 to 20 percent in 2018. It is still more common for women than for men to purchase clothes or sports articles online, and more common for men than for women to purchase computers or computer equipment.

 

Definitions and explanations

The statistics are based on the survey ICT usage in households and by individuals, which forms part of Sweden’s official statistics. The survey includes 115 questions on internet usage and ICT use by private individuals. All statistics presented here, and much more, can be downloaded from the Statistical Database on Statistics Sweden’s website.

From 2014 onwards, Statistics Sweden has added the age group 74–85 years in the sample. For historical comparisons, that total should be used. The age group 16–74 years is used in the cooperation with the EU, and these statistics are published on Eurostat’s website, where comparisons between EU Member States can be made. Eurostat will publish these statistics on 18 December 2018.

Regional estimates are reported by national area as defined by NUTS 2.
